The Local Government Service Commission Board of Cross River State has been dissolved by decision of Governor Bassey Otu.
He clarified in a statement issued on Tuesday that the decision was made in response to allegations of mismanagement and abuse of office during the commission’s most recent hiring process.
“My dear people of Cross River State, I would like to inform you that I have dissolved the Local Government Service Commission Board,” he said. This is because throughout the most recent hiring process, we found significant instances of office misuse and dishonesty.
Governor Otu described the anomalies as unfair and intolerable, saying that such behavior erodes public trust in the government and threatens true governance.
“What took place was unjust and wrong. The confidence you had in us was betrayed.
“The previously halted recruitment process will continue to be suspended.”
Otu declared, “We will start it again properly, clean, open, and based on merit so that only qualified people get the jobs.”
He also gave the people his word that he would not put up with any kind of corruption among public servants or in the administration, pointing out that such actions impede the growth of the state.
“We will continue to take strong steps to make our institutions trustworthy and honest,” he continued.
Otu declared, “Together, we will create a better Cross River State where things are done the right way.”
