Due to the government’s reluctance to compensate them for completed work, local contractors have besieged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secretariat’s gate.
Tear gas was reportedly used by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday morning to drive out demonstrators in front of FCDA.
Remember how demonstrators set up a coffin at the door of the Finance Ministry’s Abuja headquarters last week?
The All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) contractors began a nonstop demonstration at the ministry last Tuesday over debts due by the Federal Government, according to Daily Trust.
They claimed that the federal government was trying to drive them out of business.
An association executive told Daily Trust that they brought the coffin to represent how they had been burying members as a result of debt-related occurrences.
“We even buried a member, Abdulganiyu, last week,” he stated. This has been ongoing for a while. It’s also unacceptable. Recently, six of our family passed away from excessive blood pressure.
