Parts of Oyo State saw violence on Saturday at local government congresses organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a faction that supports Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
There are two PDP groups in the state, according to our source. Wike is supported by one group, while Seyi Makinde, the state governor, is supported by the other.
On Saturday, the Wike-led group held its local government congresses.
However, the conferences descended into violence, resulting in multiple attacks. There have reportedly been about 25 injuries.
In certain local government districts, properties, including homes and cars, have been vandalized.
Attacks have been recorded in a number of local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele, and Ogbomoso North.
Our correspondent discovered that there has been an attack on the home of former state governor Barrister Hazim Gbolarumi, which is situated in Bodija in the Ibadan North local government area.
It was discovered that the building had destroyed properties valued at millions of naira.
Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, the chairman of the Wike-led PDP group in Oyo, verified the attacks on Saturday afternoon.
Akinoso observed that thugs are circulating to terrorize the populace.
It might be necessary to increase the damages. Over twenty-five cars have been reported damaged. They are assaulting people at home while circling the local governments. He stated, “Buildings were damaged.”
When reached, Olayinka Ayanlade, the Oyo State Police Command’s public relations officer, confirmed the event on Saturday.
The cops are keeping an eye on the situation, he said.
It is a political party’s internal matter. At the Congress, it did not take place. It is not inside the venues of Congress.
“We learned about the assault on a former state governor’s home.” CP has issued an order for the thugs to be taken into custody. The police spokesperson stated, “We are in control of the situation.
