The Tinted Glass Permit program has been suspended countrywide by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) due to an interim court injunction that restrains the activity.
Recall that on December 15, 2025, the police said that they will resume enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit regulation, effective January 2, 2026, citing their obligation to maintain internal security and public safety.
However, the Force revealed that it was then served with an interim order in litigation No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, which prohibited it from carrying out the enforcement until the substantive litigation was heard and decided or the order was revoked.
The police claimed in a statement released on Thursday by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, that they had appeared in court, presented preliminary objections, and formally requested that the interim order be vacated.
The court has postponed the case until January 20, 2026, according to the statement, in order to conduct additional proceedings.
The statement stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has put the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the court’s decision, in strict compliance with the subsisting court order.”
Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, reiterated the Force’s dedication to upholding the law while executing its constitutional mission.
He stated that in order to handle security issues and safeguard people and property nationwide, the police would keep using legal and intelligence-driven tactics.
In the interest of public order and national security, the Force promised the public that, following the court’s decision, additional updates and explicit guidance would be published.
