With Super Eagles and Super Falcons players nominated in a number of important categories, it is anticipated that Nigerians will be well represented in this year’s competition.
After yet another outstanding season in Europe, Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African Player of the Year, will try to hold onto his title. For the men’s top award, the Galatasaray striker is still a favorite.
Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, has been nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year after his heroics between the posts at the 2024 AFCON made him stand out. Daniel Bameyi, a young defender, also qualified for the Young Player of the Year award due to his quick ascent to prominence on the global stage.
Both forward Esther Okoronkwo and Atletico Madrid’s Rasheedat Ajibade are in the running for the African Women’s Player of the Year award in the women’s division. One of the finalists for Goalkeeper of the Year is Chiamaka Nnadozie, who is still a standout player for the Super Falcons and Paris FC.
Mohamed Salah of Egypt, Yassine Bonou and Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, and Pape Matar Sarr of Senegal are among the other celebrities vying for honors.
In addition, there will be categories for Coach of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards.
