In order to destroy terrorist networks and abduction syndicates in Kwara and neighboring Niger State, the Nigerian military launched Operation Savannah Shield.

The joint task force was operationalized at 22 Brigade, Sobi Military Cantonment, Ilorin, by Chief of Defense Staff Olufemi Oluyede.

“Forested enclaves and ungoverned spaces hitherto exploited by terrorists will no longer serve as safe havens,” Oluyede said, characterizing the mission as a purposeful effort to deny criminals freedom of action.

To safeguard people, property, and important agricultural areas, he warned, troops would carry out protracted clearance operations.

The defense commander also emphasized the need for improved interagency cooperation and called on local leaders and citizens to contribute reliable intelligence, emphasizing that security is still a shared duty. He stated that activities in the combined region will be supervised by Major General Yakubu Yahaya, the Theater Commander.

In light of growing security concerns in some areas of the state, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said the deployment was timely and expressed confidence that the operation will boost farming operations and rebuild public trust.

A concerted national effort to confront instability is reflected in the launch, which was attended by stakeholders and high security officials, according to military authorities.
