A member of the House of Representatives named Alex Ikwechegh has switched from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Labour Party (LP).
Ikwechegh, the federal constituency representative for Aba North and Aba South, spoke on Tuesday after meeting Abia Governor Alex Otti. He stated that the governor’s progress in the state is the reason he chose to join the LP.
“This evening, I went to see the governor to get his blessing. Ikwechegh stated, “I have received my Labour Party card as a new member of the party, as you may or may not know.”
“I feel compelled to join the Labour Party because I think the governor’s philosophy and manner of government align with mine.
“The governor has genuinely changed the state of Abia.” In Nigeria, he has demonstrated that leadership is feasible.
“I have chosen to join the Labour Party because we have seen a man who genuinely cares about his people.”
The lawmaker refuted rumors that he met President Bola Tinubu at the State House last week and then joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There have been rumors that I joined the APC after meeting with the president. He declared, “This is untrue.
“The president and I went to observe the iftar, and I am grateful for his fatherly gesture. If my siblings choose to join the APC or the City Boy Movement, I have nothing against them. The focus of politics is interest.
Ikwechegh encouraged Nigerians, particularly those living in Abia, to sign up and join the LP.
Ikwechegh’s defection is a significant gain for the LP, according to Ginger Onwusibe, a member representing Abia’s Isiala Ngwa south/Isiala Ngwa north federal district.
“I came with him as caucus leader to make it very evident that he is now a Labour Party member,” he stated.
“We are thrilled to have him in our family. This is one of the best additions the Labour Party has ever made, and the 2027 election will show it.
Ikwechegh was impressed with Otti’s accomplishments and the job that Abia Labour Party members were doing in the national legislature, according to Onwusibe.
