Dele Momodu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has called on the federal government to take President Donald Trump’s warning seriously.
Remember that last Saturday, just one day after cautioning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in the most populous country in Africa, Trump ordered the Pentagon to draft a potential strike plan in Nigeria.
Since then, the US President has reaffirmed his threat to use force in Nigeria in response to the purported murders of Christians.
Speaking about the development, Momodu said that Trump believes the Nigerian administration is not prepared or serious enough to deal with the nation’s growing insecurity.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, he made the submission.
The head of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged the government to act decisively on this matter.
Momodu, meantime, has voiced concern for President Bola Tinubu with Trump’s recent warning.
Momodu claimed that he sympathized with Tinubu since this is not the ideal moment for him to serve as president of Nigeria.
“The president needs to get people who have the ability to speak and will be listened to,” he stated. Not every one of these political jobbers. The president is a skilled politician. He has the power to force all of Nigeria’s governors to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), but we have already moved past that point.
“Two weeks ago, President Tinubu would have simply answered, ‘No, it’s not possible,’ if someone had informed him that he would be in this dangerous scenario.
“I must admit that I felt sorry for him when I watched him speak last night because this is not the ideal time to be Nigeria’s president. For himself, his team, and all of us in Nigeria, he must now put on the thinking cap.
