Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has refuted claims that the South will choose the nation’s president in 2027.

According to an online magazine, El-Rufai stated, “I refused to contest in 2027 because it is the turn of the South,” in a post via 𝕏 by ADC News (@AdcNews_). Come 2031, you will witness me in action.

El-Rufai, however, called the article “fake news” in a statement on Monday, adding that he did not name which part of the nation should produce the president in 2027.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) claims that he never made the alleged statement in an interview or on social media.

“My attention has been drawn to a trending fake news item that allegedly stated which region of the country should produce the president in 2027,” the message says.

“Despite going viral, this claim is false. In none of my speeches, interviews, or social media posts did I mention it. I express my thoughts and opinions on my own verifiable social media sites.

“I would like to reaffirm that no opinions may be ascribed to me unless they are clearly stated on my social media accounts or in interviews with reputable media outlets. Additionally, it is incorrect and inappropriate to claim credit for opinion pieces written by other authors that I may share on my accounts as a contribution to the national dialogue. These warnings are essential as we deal with careless politicking and the intentional misuse of social media to propagate false information.
