Femi Falana, a human rights advocate, has suggested that the federal government collaborate with other nations to increase diplomatic pressure on the US regarding its involvement in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and Israel.

He made the call on Thursday while appearing on the Politics Today program on Channels Television.

Falana argued that US President Donald Trump was disobeying UN resolutions and international law, denouncing his conduct.

He called on the Nigerian government to cooperate with other nations to guarantee compliance with international law and to persuade superpowers like China and Russia to step in to address the worsening situation.

“President Trump disregards international law and treats it with contempt. As a result, he has removed the US from roughly 66 UN resolutions. The UN resolutions are meaningless to him, Falana stated.

The senior advocate stated that Nigeria should collaborate with other countries to promote moderation in order to resurrect its history of multilateral diplomacy, akin to the nation’s participation during the Non-Aligned Movement.

As a nation, we have a responsibility to cooperate with other nations, just as we did in the past. We need to act quickly to work with other nations to put pressure on Mr. Trump while discussing the days of non-alignment,” he stated.

Falana also emphasized the significance of convincing powerful nations like China and Russia to engage diplomatically, claiming that they have significant sway over Iran.

He went on, “We need to convince China and Russia to step in because those are the two nations that Iran will listen to.”

Falana urged Nigeria to fortify its internal security framework and lessen its dependency on foreign powers for stability, going beyond the global aspect of the problem.

“Nigeria needs to awaken.” We need to take a cue from Iran that an imperialist nation like the United States cannot ensure law and order in your nation unless you reorganize your own nation and equip your police and military forces,” he stated.

Falana also questioned why Nigeria’s state-owned refineries were closed after billions of dollars were spent on their repair, criticizing the nation’s handling of its refining capability.

“No one is discussing about four refineries anymore. The Dangote Refinery is now the only source of supply for the NNPC. Is it the way to govern a nation? Approximately $2.9 billion was spent on the upkeep of our four refineries after money was wasted, he stated.
