An attempted kidnapping in Guto Village, a border community in Abuja’s Bwari Area Council, was foiled on Thursday, according to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.

About thirty gunmen are thought to have invaded the neighborhood early in the morning and tried to break into a home before security personnel could reach.

Officers from the IGP Special Intervention Squad and the Bwari Division Surveillance Team were sent to the area right away, according to a statement released by FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh.

Adeh claimed that when the armed guys saw the police units, they opened fire, starting a gunfight.

The statement claims that during the gunfight, two of the attackers were slain and the others fled into surrounding bushes.

A portion of the announcement said, “In the early hours of Wednesday, November 20, 2025, the FCT Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council.”

The Command received a distress call at approximately 1:10 a.m. stating that roughly thirty heavily armed criminals had entered the community with the intention of kidnapping a resident and his family members.

The IGP Special Intervention Squad and members of the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team mobilized to the scene in a prompt and well-coordinated manner.

The attackers, who had already made an effort to break into the targeted property, opened fire when they saw the responding police teams. A ferocious gunfight ensued as the brave officers used superior weaponry and precision to engage the attackers. The remaining offenders ran into the nearby bushes and hilly terrain after two of them were neutralized.

One police officer was shot during the altercation, according to Adeh, and was brought to Bwari General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Unfortunately, one police officer was shot and killed during the exchange. He was taken to Bwari General Hospital, where a doctor declared him dead,” she stated. The Command is very sorry about this loss.

“CP Miller Dantawaye, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, praises the operatives’ outstanding bravery, quick thinking, and professionalism during the operation.

He describes the dead officer as a brave hero who gave his life in the line of duty and offers his sincere sympathies to his family, coworkers, and loved ones. The CP further guarantees that the Command would keep stepping up its efforts to eliminate criminal elements from the FCT.

“He also encourages all FCT communities to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or emergencies using the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311. He also appreciates the vigilance of Guto residents.”
