The 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, which gives Nigerian postgraduate students the chance to study in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia, is now accepting applications, according to the Federal Government.
Special Advisor to the President on Social Media Dada Olusegun made the news on Monday via X (previously Twitter).
Applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships abroad are now open, according to the post.
Benefits include tuition, return flights, housing, living allowances, health insurance, and, if appropriate, bench fees. The program is aimed for MSc and PhD applicants in fields related to the oil and gas industry.
The program’s goal, according to a statement on the PTDF scholarship board website, is to develop indigenous capability in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry while giving access to top-notch training, research facilities, and international expertise.
Scholarships for PhD candidates in the UK will be split-site, enabling research to be carried out at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) as well as a few UK partner universities, such as Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
The PTDF emphasized that the scholarships are extremely difficult, with candidates evaluated based on their academic background, research projects, professional body membership, and how applicable their studies are to the oil and gas sector.
The prerequisites for eligibility are:
Applicants for an MSc must have finished the NYSC program and have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) or higher in their first degree.
PhD candidates are required to submit a five-page research proposal that outlines their goals, methods, and strategies for gathering data.
A valid National Identity Number (NIN) is required for each candidate, and submitting false documents or submitting numerous applications would result in instant disqualification.
Interested parties are encouraged to apply online for recognized programs at PTDF partner institutions at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng. The deadline for submissions is February 27, 2026.
