According to reports, a fire has spread across the old terminal of Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which is presently undergoing renovations worth billions of naira.
The cause of the fire and its extent were still unclear at the time this report was filed.
The impacted terminal is a component of the ongoing infrastructure modernization projects at the airport.
Officials had not yet released a formal statement regarding the incident, however it was claimed that emergency services had reached the scene.
Nearly two years have passed since a fire incident at the airport’s international wing was reported.
On September 6, 2023, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria announced that a smoke incident occurred at Terminal 1 of the airport due to a suspected electrical spark in the baggage hall ceiling.
The authorities claim that a burning lithium-ion battery installation in the basement was the source of the smoke.
Authorities are evaluating the situation at the old terminal and will provide more details.
In other events, people in the Woro community in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area have accused Nigerian Army forces who were sent in following a deadly terrorist attack of not pursuing suspected assailants into neighboring forests.
According to the inhabitants, soldiers instead set up checkpoints in the neighborhood, harassing and extorting drivers.
The charges come after accused Boko Haram militants carried out a concerted attack weeks ago that shocked the local communities by killing at least 162 civilians.
Soldiers stayed in the town instead of going into the trees where the assailants were said to be hiding, a Woro resident informed SaharaReporters.
