Peter Ameh, a former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, or IPAC, accused President Bola Tinubu of lying about electoral irregularities in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s voting system is perfect, according to Ameh, who made this claim in an interview on Trust TV on Thursday.
His reaction was in response to the President signing the contentious Electoral Amendment Act into federal law.
President Tinubu signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law on Wednesday, according to reports.
“Our electoral system is not flawed,” the former head of IPAC stated in an opinion piece.About glitches, Tinubu lied.
“It seems to me that the president is speaking on behalf of the INEC. Section 133 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s (as amended) Constitution established INEC as an independent agency.
Section (151)1C gives the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and the INEC Commissioners authority. They have autonomy. Even direct chat with resources is available to them.
“They have claimed to be able to do it. claimed they conducted effective transmission in every election, including the Anambra one. Not a single one of them has ever complained. Actually, this reform was proposed to the National Assembly by INEC’s important stakeholders.
“So, how do you claim that we lack the infrastructure necessary to address this issue? It’s not true, and I know the president is lying from the bottom of his heart.
Instead, they ought to state that the APC government is unpopular with the majority of the populace. The election that would reflect the interests of the people on the ballot also terrifies them. They are worried that the public vote will be taken into consideration. Out of all of these, I only see that. Nothing more is there.
