Kabiru Gaya, the former governor of Kano State, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, he issued a letter to the party’s ward chairman in Gaya Arewa, which is located in Kano State’s Gaya Local Government Area, announcing the decision.

With this action, he is leaving a party in which he has been a leader and member for many years.

Gaya, who served as the Senate representative for Kano South from 2015 to 2023, clarified that his decision was the result of extensive consideration and deliberation.

He claimed that his decision to leave the party was motivated by his personal convictions and what he felt was right for the people he represents.

Noting that he was given the opportunity to serve and received support while in government, he also expressed gratitude for the party’s involvement in his political career.

He declared: “Effective today, April 5, 2026, I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC).”

“Serving under the party’s platform has been an honor, especially during my time as a senator (2015–2023). I’m still appreciative of the opportunity, trust, and support I received during this time.

However, after thorough consideration and extensive conversation, I have determined that leaving the party at this time is in the best interests of both my own convictions and my constituents. I want to express my profound appreciation to the party for the platform it gave me as well as for the years of collaboration and friendship.
