Four youngsters lost their lives in an explosion in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area, triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED), according to Borno State Police.
The explosion happened on Friday at about 12:40 p.m. behind Banki Motor Park in Wajari Ward, according to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Keneth Daso.
Mustapha Tijja, a 12-year-old child, was hurt while playing with four pals in a temporary building behind the car park, according to the police. Apparently discovered in the jungle, the IED unintentionally exploded. Mustapha is still undergoing treatment after being hurried to the FHI 360 Clinic.
Awana Mustapha, 15; Malum Modu, 14; and Lawan Ibrahim and Modu Abacha, both 12, are the four children who perished.
Investigations are still ongoing, but police have brought order back to the neighborhood. CP Naziru Abdulmajid, the Commissioner of Police, advised the public to report suspicious items right away and to avoid handling unknown materials.
