Elderstatesman Bernard Mikko of Rivers State has defended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the decision was essential for the state’s overall welfare, political protection, and self-preservation.

Mikko stated that Fubara’s defection was not surprising in a Wednesday interview with ARISE NEWS, pointing to the PDP’s demise as a viable political platform in Rivers State and throughout the South.

According to Mikko, political circumstances in Rivers State and throughout Nigeria frequently necessitate that leaders form alliances with groups that can defend their interests and promote governance.

He saw Fubara’s choice as a logical reaction to the PDP’s failure to uphold party discipline and safeguard its members.

According to Mikko, “the political environment demands that leaders make strategic choices.”

“Governor Fubara’s action demonstrates a pragmatic approach to guaranteeing stability, efficient governance, and the welfare of the Rivers State populace.”

“Nigerians, none of them would be surprised by Fubara’s action yesterday or the day before.”

Mikko claimed that since President Goodluck Jonathan’s term ended, the PDP has become as weak as a banana leaf or a plantain leaf.

“Because the party immediately became so weak once President Jonathan’s term ended.

You are well aware of the governors and stakeholders that initially left the convention in 2014 to form the MPDP.

“I served as a special advisor to the policy monitoring, policy evaluation, and monitoring during all of their subsequent actions. And I saw everything that was going on.

“The party members behaved openly without consequence. The party turned into a trading franchise, you know. and various other stuff.

He claimed that Fubara’s decision to join the APC was motivated by a desire to maintain stability in Rivers State and protect his ability to lead successfully rather than just self-interest.

“I believe he’s correct. Riversfield is pleased that Fubara has succeeded in negotiating his way into a more powerful platform that can provide him with the kind of protection that Riversfield need. He is not the focus.

Mikko went on to say that the governor’s actions were motivated by security and intelligence concerns.

“The most crucial thing in politics is to align yourself with your safety.” As the state’s leading executive, he has a thorough understanding. Perhaps we are watching from the sidelines. Security reports aren’t read by us. He is aware of the source of his bread.

He is aware of what was happening. He said, “He is aware of what was going on.”
