Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine and a former presidential candidate, expressed shock at the overwhelming support President Bola Tinubu is getting from state governors and warned that if the President wins a second term in 2027, Nigeria could descend into dictatorship.

Speaking on News Central, Momodu criticized the increasing number of governors elected on opposition platforms defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In recent months, a number of governors who were first elected by opposition parties have reportedly joined the APC.

One of the most recent events is the alleged action involving Ahmadu Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, which has increased conjecture on the opposition’s power in advance of 2027.

In response, Momodu, a leader of the African Democratic Congress, charged that the governors were putting political survival ahead of democratic ideals.

He declared, “The governors are fighting to be the biggest thug for Tinubu, fighting to ensure he wins a second term.”

“What ‘Jazz’ they’ve used on them is unknown to me.”

Momodu expressed his confusion at the governors’ apparent newfound allegiance to the president.

“I am unsure of the jazz they have used on them. He questioned, “What will a man do when he has power for a second term and has no need for anybody if he can capture Nigerians’ bodies and souls in this way during his first term?”

He claims that if Tinubu were to serve a second term, institutional checks and balances would be weakened, making governors susceptible.

“They Will Turn Into Complete Slaves”
Governors who are now backing the president may come to regret their choices if he is re-elected, the media entrepreneur cautioned.

The result will be a full-fledged dictatorship, with all of the governors suddenly subject to his whims. Momodu stated, “They will regret it if he wins a second term because they will become his complete slaves.”

Momodu’s comments reportedly coincide with rising political tensions ahead of the general elections in 2027, as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to be reshaped by alignments and realignments.
