On Monday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul declared that Greenland belonged to Denmark, emphasizing that NATO might talk about bolstering its defense if needed.

Wadephul made this statement in response to US President Donald Trump’s fresh threats to seize Greenland, which frightened NATO members and gained additional urgency when Trump carried out his threats to remove Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

Remember that during his first term as president in 2019, Trump expressed his desire to conquer Greenland on multiple occasions.

In an interview with The Atlantic magazine on Sunday, Trump rekindled the initiative, saying, “We do need Greenland, absolutely.” For defense, we require it.

However, Wadephul told reporters in Lithuania that Germany had concerns about Maduro’s overthrow, emphasizing that the Venezuelan people should decide their nation’s future through free and fair elections following Trump’s declaration that the US will govern the nation.

Wadephul emphasized that Greenland belonged to Denmark.

“And Greenland will, in theory, also be subject to NATO defense since Denmark is a member of NATO,” he stated.
