The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disputed claims that gunmen attacked his convoy on his route to the Sam Mbakwe International Airport in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
According to reports, Otti clarified in a statement via his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, that an advance team consisting of three members from the governor’s office at Government House, Umuahia, who were on duty at the Sam Mbakwe airport, Owerri, were attacked by unidentified gunmen while traveling between Umuowa and Ihitte junction.
Njoku emphasized that no lives were lost in the incident and declared that the governor’s convoy was not involved in the attack.
“An advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, were attacked by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of today, December 2nd,” the statement said.
“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.
“The public is hereby informed that Governor Otti’s convoy was not involved in this attack, and no lives were lost during the regrettable incident.”
