Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, has urged people who left the Labour Party for various reasons to come back.
At a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders summit titled Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political impact, which took place at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, the Governor was represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) collaborated to organize the meeting.
The governor observed that the state has been able to show that the Labour Party is a vehicle for purpose, governance, accountability, and people-centered development, rather than merely an election platform, thanks to the leadership in Abia.
He pointed out that advancements in physical discipline, institutional changes, infrastructure renovation, and service delivery demonstrate the party’s ability to carry out this exact program at the federal level.
But we also need to recognize that internal unity is necessary for long-term political success. Building trust, fortifying systems, improving communication, and making sure that all parties—from ward level to the national leadership—feel appreciated and heard are all important aspects of reunifying the party.
We must start now to strengthen grassroots mobilization and membership revalidation, build strategic alliances with progressive minds who share our vision, invest in women’s and youth’s participation as key drivers of electoral success, promote internal democracy, transparency, and discipline, and effectively and consistently communicate our accomplishments to the public in order to move forward toward 2027.
“The Labour Party is the force behind this progress, and we must keep in mind that Abia State is an example for our country to emulate. He said, “We have to keep in mind that we are not alone.
According to the governor, the summit must result in concrete resolutions rather than only proposals.
“Let’s depart with a well-defined plan, specific roles, and quantifiable deadlines. Let’s also pledge to use communication rather than division to clear up internal misconceptions,” he stated.
“We are inviting our brothers who lost the lawsuits to join the Labour Party at this very moment, and together, let’s start over.
The foundational tenets of the Labour Party were social inclusion, productivity, equity, and justice. No realignment or opposing plan can lessen our influence if we stick to these values.
