All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Bashir Ahmad has said that since Governor Abba Yusuf alluded to his potential defection to the ruling party, focus in Kano State has changed from governance to politics.

The governor reportedly parted ways with his political godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and was anticipated to formally join the ruling party earlier this week.

However, there hasn’t been an official statement confirming the governor’s switch to the ruling party as of the time this item was filed.

Bashir bemoaned the shift in focus from governance to politics since the governor’s intention was made public in a post on his official X Twitter on Saturday.

He wrote, “Government in our state appears to have slowed down since the Governor hinted a few weeks ago about a possible decamping to the ruling APC, with attention shifting almost entirely to the politics surrounding the decamping conversations.”

“Such a delicate choice should ideally have been reached internally, with all required stakeholder discussions finished, before being made public. In numerous other states, governors have switched to the APC with little to no fanfare.

The ongoing nature of this problem has unavoidably impacted Kano’s governance and produced needless political strain and stress, something the state cannot afford right now.

“Prolonged political uncertainty should never take precedence over the delivery of good governance.”
