Armed bandits are accused of burning a police station in the neighboring Konkoso districts and killing six people in Tungan-Makeri, both in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Over 200 armed men reportedly invaded the village at around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, firing intermittently and burning numerous houses as part of the raid on Tungan Makeri.

The attackers, according to the locals, worked for hours, killing six people and displacing several others.

In the Zagatina village, which was along the assailants’ path, an eyewitness reported seeing dozens of motorcycles transporting the armed men.

“I counted about 41 motorcycles with two or three people on each, including women and children on some, as they passed through my village.

They went via the rear of my house, so when I saw them approaching, I immediately hid in the bush,” the resident recalled.

According to reports, the bandits marched into Konkoso on Wednesday morning after attacking Tungan Makeri, where they allegedly operated without any security.

An additional source of stress in the area was the burning of a town police station during the incursion.

Concerns about the increasing audacity of the assailants were heightened when locals identified Tungan-Makeri and Konkoso as the two main towns in Borgu LGA.

Following the initial attack, there were also reports of an Air Force aircraft near Tungan Makeri, which some locals believe pushed the bandits to leave the village.

As of the time this news was filed, there has been no formal confirmation from the Niger State Police Command.

Parts of Borgu LGA are experiencing security worries again as a result of the incident, and locals are requesting immediate reinforcement to stop further attacks.
