According to reports, 28 travelers were kidnapped by gunmen in the Wase LGA in Plateau state’s Zak village, Bashar district.
The victims, who included men, women, and children, were reportedly attacked on Sunday night while traveling from Zak village to the Sabon Layi settlement to attend an Islamic ceremony.
Two princes and a religious leader in charge of the group were among those abducted, according to the story.
The travelers were attacked on the outskirts of the village at approximately 8 p.m., according to the newspaper.
According to reports, the gunmen abandoned their car by the side of the road after kidnapping every passenger.
On Monday morning, additional drivers found the abandoned car, which was reportedly owned by a community leader in Zak. This caused neighbors to get concerned and conduct a search.
The community discovered the car was transporting the kidnapped travelers during investigations, the article continued, adding that locals’ attempts to locate the captives had failed.
It stated that the incident has been reported to security officials.
Alabo Alfred, the state’s police spokesperson, was unresponsive to calls and texts, thus attempts to contact him were fruitless.
In recent months, the state has seen an increase in kidnapping, banditry, and cattle rustling.
Following an attack on miners in the Fan community of Barkin Ladi LGA in the state on December 17, gunmen killed twelve people and kidnapped three more.
According to reports, a retaliatory attack in Dorong village, Foron district, Barkin Ladi LGA of the state, on December 14 resulted in the deaths of at least four children.
