How Nigerian artists can improve their chances of winning Grammys – DJ Big N

Nigerian musicians have received advice from Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known as DJ Big N, the disk jockey for Mavin Records, on how to increase their chances of winning at the Grammy Awards.

Recall that at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, South African celebrity Tyla defeated Nigerian musicians Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, and Wizkid in the Best African Music Performance category.

DJ Big N responded on Monday via his X page, claiming that Nigerian musicians’ lack of participation in American music seminars and events was the reason for their subpar performance at the Grammy Awards.

He advised them to follow in the footsteps of multiple Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo by attending more American music events and participating in the Grammy selection process.

It hurts a lot that so many brilliant Nigerians were nominated but didn’t win the Grammy this time, he wrote. The truth is that we have seen the value of involvement outside of the award ceremony thanks to legends like @angeliquekidjo and @YoussouNdourSN.

“Kidjo is making her presence known at those seminars and events.” We must do the same if we wish to alter the game. Come forward, become a member of the @RecordingAcad voting body, and participate throughout the year. That’s the way we really leave our mark. I wish you well in the upcoming year, but let’s help shape it as well.
