The Kwara State Police command has arrested 15-year-old Gobri Yusuf for allegedly killing his guardian, Akanbi, who reared and adopted him in the state capital of Ilorin.
After his first poisoning scheme failed, the suspect allegedly attacked his guardian.
During a news conference on Friday at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, explained that the suspect was captured after the police received a distress complaint about finding Akanbi in a pool of blood at her home.
“Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that the suspect who lived with the deceased, allegedly carried out the attack while the victim was bathing,” the Commissioner of Police stated.
According to the results, the suspect, who lived with the dead, allegedly hid behind a door and attacked her while she was taking a bath with domestic objects, he continued.
A frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick (spatula), and kitchen knives were among the items found on the suspect, according to the Ojo.
He clarified that the suspect admitted to the murder when being questioned, claiming that it was motivated by animosity for the deceased.
The Commissioner claimed that the suspect changed his clothes after allegedly committing the crime and then left the house pretending to do an errand.
He added that after the boy got in touch with the deceased’s husband, he found her lifeless body.
The commissioner clarified that while the suspect is still being held by the police, an investigation is underway.
