A 20-year-old man named Damian Oforbuike has been exiled by the residents of Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, for allegedly killing his mother.

According to reports, the town is in sorrow following the incident that happened over the weekend.

The suspect allegedly used a machete to beat his mother, Onyemaechi, before escaping into a neighboring woodland, according to local sources who talked with Vanguard.

According to reports, young people in the neighborhood organized after the incident, followed him to his forest hiding place, and caught him.

After being paraded through the neighborhood, he was exiled and given a warning not to come back.

The suspect allegedly admitted to carrying out the crime in a widely shared video taken during the procession, citing complaints over his mother’s unwillingness to comply with certain demands.

He claimed, “I killed my mother because she refused to give me a bath and also refused to rent a shop for my brother, who was learning barbing and needed money to start.”

Maduabuchi Nweke, the local councillor, confirmed the occurrence and said that more than 200 young people were enlisted to explore the jungle and capture the culprit.

He continued by saying that the suspect has subsequently been turned over to the police for additional inquiry.

The deceased’s remains have been placed in a mortuary while the community struggles to come to terms with the terrible event.
