According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he continues to firmly believe in democracy.
He made this statement on Wednesday while speaking to members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja.
Thinking back on his political past, the President recalled that in the past, despite unfavorable political conditions, he had remained in opposition without using threats.
“I toed the line and remained in opposition without threatening anyone but the military junta when it was against me years ago,” Tinubu stated.
Declaring that he is still a “die-hard democrat” who will keep defending Nigeria’s democratic system, he reiterated his dedication to democratic ideals, national unity, and the rule of law.
“I am happy that we are all democrats and that we all freely and actively support our democracy. The President stated, “Over the past 26 years, we have been at it selflessly.”
Tinubu emphasized that he remained steadfast in his belief in democracy while restating his own conviction.
“I am a fervent democrat who is dedicated to a united Nigeria and adheres to that ideology with all my heart. “I will live and die with that philosophy and principle,” he said.
Additionally, he emphasized the value of upholding democratic institutions and the rule of law, stating that arguments should be settled by discussion and reasoned argument rather than coercion.
“Any democrat must be subservient to the rule of law. The minority will have a voice and may not get their way, while the majority will get their word and their way. Tinubu remarked, “That is the sweetness and essence of democracy.”
In Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system, Tinubu continued to be devoted to the platform he is a part of while upholding the rights of others.
“I have my voter registration. I’m going to stick to my stance whether or not we are on the same one,” he declared.
