In order to guarantee that Abia State is given to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the general elections of 2027, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, has promised to mobilize all available political resources.
According to reports, Kalu made the statement on Thursday when on his yearly New Year’s visit to Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, in Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area.
The former governor of Abia State stated that the APC must overthrow the state’s ruling Labour Party and emphasized that he will stop at nothing to secure a resounding victory for the party.
“In the elections, I would back both President Bola Tinubu and the APC’s candidate for governor.
“I’ll give it my all to make sure the APC wins the election in Abia by a landslide.
“I am not talking about friendship, but Dr. Alex Otti, the current governor, is my friend. The APC’s complete electoral win is what I am referring to,” he continued.
Additionally, Kalu urged state governors across to assume all accountability for protecting people and property in their states rather than depending just on the President.
The senator stated that strong leadership could greatly reduce insecurity, recalling his tenure as governor.
“As governor of Abia, I made sure that everyone’s property and lives were completely secure.
“At a time when other states were dealing with increased insecurity, there were no cases of kidnapping and other crimes in Abia,” he claimed.
He advised governors to follow in the footsteps of Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, whom he commended for keeping the state peaceful.
“The governors ought to follow in the footsteps of Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, who has made sure that the state has sufficient peace and security,” Kalu said.
Kalu explained that Okoro-Emegha’s steadfast devotion throughout the years is the reason he pays the Ebonyi APC chairman a visit every year for the New Year.
According to Kalu, “He is a living example of loyalty and someone you can trust with your life.”
“He was one of the success stories I documented as a governor, and I raised him as a child even while his father was still alive.”
Kalu further disclosed that he personally counseled Senator David Umahi, the current Minister of Works and former governor of Ebonyi State, to maintain his resolve when Okoro-Emegha was given to him.
“I told him to offer his principal 100% commitment when I gave him to former Governor David Umahi.
“He has transferred that same virtue to the current governor, Francis Nwifuru,” he continued.
