Ifeanyi Izeze, a trailblazing member of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media team, has passed away.

The Atiku media office announced the death in a statement on Sunday, stating that the former vice president was devastated by the loss.

According to the statement, Izeze left Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), Ikot-Abasi, in 2006 to work as the Office Manager for Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media team.

At that crucial juncture in Atiku’s political career, he applied his extensive background in the media, Niger Delta, and Nigeria’s oil and gas sector to the work of the media team.

Before joining ALSCON, Ifeanyi reported and wrote extensively on Nigeria’s oil and gas industry for many years in the now-defunct Sunray, Anchor, and NewAge newspapers, among others. It is understood that he received postgraduate training in geology at the University of Port Harcourt.

Ifeanyi was a key team member and the first Office Manager of the Atiku Media Office, which influenced the Atiku Presidential Campaigns’ policy in the Niger Delta, especially with regard to the oil and gas industries.

Ifeanyi was an appointed preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. He was a born-again Christian of the Christ Embassy denomination with a remarkable sense of humor.

“May God grant his friends, family, and coworkers the strength to endure his passing. His relatives will provide more information about his funeral. His only surviving brother, Pastor Emeka Izeze of the Guardian Newspapers, was his sole surviving sibling. He also left behind children and grandkids.

The statement ended, “May God grant Ifeanyi’s soul an eternal rest and forgive him his sins.”
