The Indigenous People of Biafra’s convicted leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been praised by Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, for the alleged lifting of the sit-at-home order that was in effect across the South-East states on Monday.

According to Igboho, the development would boost socioeconomic activity in the area and foster an atmosphere that allowed small and medium-sized businesses to flourish.

Kanu reportedly ordered the termination of the Monday sit-at-home policy, which had been in effect for almost five years. Kanu is presently serving a life sentence for terrorism at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.

Igboho called Kanu’s choice “thoughtful and timely” in a statement released by his attorney, Mr. Pelumi Olanjengbesi.

“To break the deadlock in his current ordeal, I want to urge the IPOB leader to vigorously explore dialogue and mediation with the Federal Government,” the statement said in part.

Igboho pointed out that although the right to self-determination is still vital, discussion is still a viable means of achieving peace and stability.

“Although Mazi Kanu has the fundamental right to seek self-determination, I believe that the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is inclined toward mutual understanding and negotiation for the sake of peace, shared prosperity, security, and the respect that the South-East deserves,” he stated.

The activist also urged individuals who are purportedly profiting from regional instability to stop for the sake of peace and progress.

“It is equally important to urge everyone who benefits from the violent desecration and despoliation of the South-East to stop doing so for the sake of regional and national peace and economic prosperity,” he continued.
