During an unsuccessful infiltration attempt in Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Nigerian Army troops are said to have neutralized Abou Ameer, a prominent commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The insurgent leader and a number of fighters were killed during the operation, according to security sources.

Ameer personally commanded the militants in the assault on a military unit, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency journal.

According to reports, he was just appointed as Pulka’s Ameer (Qaid) after Modu Kunduli, his predecessor, was killed in Borno State’s Bama Local Government Area.

According to sources who spoke with Makama, the militants suffered heavy casualties as a result of the forces’ fierce resistance.

According to the report, “the terrorists were repelled after coming under heavy fire from the well-coordinated troops, resulting in significant casualties on their side.”

A number of senior ISWAP leaders were shot during the battle, according to the report.

Saleh Madagali, Jundulla, and Abu Ali Jango are allegedly among those hurt.

Weapons and intelligence materials were reportedly collected by troops from the area, suggesting persistent pressure on insurgent networks in the Northeast.

According to security officials, the development highlights the military’s continued efforts to weaken terrorist activities in the area.

The most recent operation takes place just days after troops and the Nigerian Air Force allegedly killed at least 61 ISWAP fighters during an unsuccessful infiltration attempt in Malam Fatori, Borno State’s Abadam Local Government Area.

In an effort to bring about peace and stop other attacks, the military has kept stepping up operations throughout the Northeast.
