Ace Nigerian artist Innocent Idibia, also known by his stage as 2Face or 2Baba, has stated that it is insulting to continue comparing Wizkid to the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

It was remembered that Wizkid recently caused controversy when he asserted that he is “bigger” than Fela in reaction to criticism of him and his supporters from his son, Seun Kuti.

In a brief excerpt from the next Mic On podcast, 2Face responded, calling the comparison absurd and highlighting how it is unjust to Wizkid’s career and disrespectful to Fela’s legacy.

Placing Wizkid and Fela side by side, according to the African Queen crooner, ignores their distinct contributions to Nigerian music as well as their disparate eras and influences.

“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous,” he declared. In addition to being unjust to Wizkid, it is insulting to Fela.

As for Nigerian musicians that liken themselves to her father, Fela, Yeni Kuti, a media celebrity from Nigeria, has criticized them.

After accepting Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards alongside other family members, Yeni said in an interview with Arise TV that Fela’s relevance now, 29 years after his passing, speaks for itself.

Debates and comparisons to Fela, in Yeni’s opinion, ignore the point of legacy.

She called on modern artists to honor Fela’s legacy and cease attempting to minimize his accomplishments by drawing comparisons to a deceased person.

Yeni Kuti went on to say that instead of comparing themselves to Fela, modern artists should compare themselves to their peers.
