As the Enugu Unity Forum (EUF) grows its grassroots structures throughout the local government, Nkanu West has become one of the most powerful focal points for Governor Peter Mbah’s reelection campaign.

At the Forum’s 14 ward executives’ and local government’s inauguration on Wednesday, leaders and stakeholders expressed unwavering support for the governor’s ambition for a second term.

Speaking at the event, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, stated that it was only fitting that the EUF would flourish in Nkanu West given the transformative impact Governor Mbah has made in the area, especially in reestablishing peace and eradicating the threat of unidentified gunmen who used to terrorize communities before Mbah took office in May 2023.

“Unknown gunmen were removed from Nkanu West by Governor Mbah. Particularly when it comes to security, Peter Mbah is a good product that sells itself. We were scared by unknown gunmen, but since Mbah took over, the situation has stabilized, according to Ogbodo.

He also emphasized the governor’s educational efforts, pointing out that Nkanu West’s Smart School project has already started.

He called on locals without voter cards to take advantage of the ongoing registration drive and asked parents to make sure their kids benefit from the new model schools.

Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwatu, the Zonal Coordinator of EUF in the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, informed the recently appointed executives that their primary responsibility was to increase grassroots mobilization by spreading the word about Governor Mbah’s accomplishments to every ward and community.

He claimed that the EUF was based on a pledge to win the governor’s reelection so the state could keep reaping the benefits of the extensive changes already in place rather than on inducements.

He stated, “So, your job is to go to the hinterlands and preach the good works of the Governor, who has projects in all the wards.”

Additionally, Nwatu praised the Nkanu West Chairman for supplementing the governor’s program with obvious local initiatives in school facilities, sanitation, and water supply.

The renovation of Hotel Presidential, the revitalization of Niger Gas, the modernization of Holy Ghost Bus Terminal, the building of 260 Green Smart Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centers, the completion of the International Conference Center, and the ongoing construction of the International Hotel are just a few of the major initiatives of the Mbah administration.

Among the significant ongoing projects, he also named the Amodu–Akpugo–Akpwfu–Amagunze Road.

Nwatu praised the local government chairman for emulating the governor’s development-focused leadership style, calling Hon. Ogbodo a “silent achiever.” He cited the chairman’s accomplishments as proof that Nkanu West is completely in line with Mbah’s vision, including the construction of a contemporary abattoir at Eke Agbani Market, the renovation of the Ozalla Four Corners Motor Park, several boreholes, perimeter fencing of Smart Schools, and the improvement of local roads.

Nwatu stated, “That’s why we said Peter Mbah should receive all of our votes.”

Hon. Anene Nnamani of Akegbe Ugwu Ward, speaking on behalf of the recently appointed ward executives, stated that the governor’s initiatives speak for themselves throughout the state and that they are prepared to “preach the gospel of Peter Mbah.”

Governor Mbah is a leader whose work is too vast to express in detail, according to Chief Ike Okeke, Coordinator of Nkanu West EUF. He also stated that the local government chairman, as a true grassroots leader, should be re-elected for a second term.

Deputy Coordinator, Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Hon. Robert Arum; Zonal Secretary, Engineer Louis Nnamchi; Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dennis Agbo; Coordinator, Enugu South LGA, Daniel Eheh; Coordinator, Isi-Uzo LGA, Prof. Ifeanyi Odoziobodo; Coordinator, Enugu East LGA, Chief Dr. Kelvin Sunday Nnamani, among others, attended the inauguration. The Local Government Chairman’s Chief of Staff, Barr. Chidi Ani, was also present.
