After bandits kidnapped Reverend Father Markus Samari from his home in the Kuse-Gudu community, tension erupted in Kaduna State’s Kagarko Local Government Area.
During the attack, one Emmanuel Yaro was reportedly shot and killed.
According to Daily Trust, a local named Salihu Mahmud told reporters that the gunmen broke into the Reverend’s house on Sunday at 5:37 p.m., just after he had returned from church.
According to Mahmud, two armed men broke into the cleric’s home and took him away while brandishing guns.
“One of the Reverend’s relatives, who happens to be my neighbor in Kagarko town, claims that the Reverend had just returned from church when the bandits attacked and took him away at gunpoint,” he stated.
The attackers appeared in great numbers with advanced guns, according to the residents. They allegedly went after the cleric in particular, breaking into the residence as other gang members surrounding it.
The kidnapping was also confirmed by a neighborhood leader who requested to remain anonymous for security concerns.
He told reporters, “I got a call on Sunday night at around 7 p.m. from one of the victim’s relatives that bandits had broken into the Reverend Father’s home and taken him away.”
He further stated that he promptly informed the soldiers positioned at Kagarko town’s entrance.
It was discovered that the kidnapping occurred within twenty-four hours after gunmen broke into a Fulani community in Sabon-Kurutu hamlet and stole multiple cows.
Herders were reportedly forced to flee for safety as the attackers arrived on motorcycles and fired intermittently.
Both occurrences were confirmed by a Kagarko police source, who advised reporters to seek official response from the Kaduna State Police Command headquarters.
However, as of the time this report was filed, ASP Hassan Mansur, the Command’s spokesperson, had not yet verified the occurrence.
