A new High Court judge, two Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, recently appointed Special Advisers, and newly appointed members of the Persons Living with Disabilities Commission were all sworn in on Wednesday under the direction of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas.
Top government officials, judges, political players, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and other dignitaries from throughout the state attended the ceremony, which took place in the Executive Chamber of TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
According to reports, Khadi Aliyu Yaya Abubakar and Khadi Yakubu Mohammed, the Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, as well as Justice Mansura Bargami, the High Court judge, were among those sworn in.
Speaking to the audience, Governor Kefas called the event a major turning point in his administration’s initiatives to uphold the rule of law, enhance governance, and promote more diversity in the state.
He emphasized that the foundation of democracy is still a robust and independent judiciary.
The governor declared, “A strong and independent judiciary remains the bedrock of democracy,” adding that the nominations demonstrated the administration’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law.
Kefas tasked the just sworn-in judges with carrying out their jobs with integrity, justice, and fairness.
He emphasized that the public’s confidence in the legal system is primarily dependent on their dedication to the rule of law and urged them to administer justice without fear or favor.
As the last resort for the average citizen, the judiciary is revered by the people of Taraba, the governor said, and he urged the new appointees to explain why they are trusted.
The newly appointed Special Advisers were also sworn in by Kefas, who urged them to use their knowledge and experience to forward the development objectives of his administration.
Their appointments were made solely on the basis of merit and a demonstrated ability to produce measurable outcomes, he said.
He claims that the advisers are supposed to offer creative solutions and strategic direction that will improve the lives of people throughout the state.
The governor also inaugurated members of the Persons Living with Disabilities Commission in a related development.
Kefas reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, promising to develop policies that safeguard the rights and dignity of people with disabilities and to offer equal opportunities.
He insisted that inclusive and people-centered governance is necessary, pointing out that no group in society should be excluded from the state’s efforts to progress.
Stakeholders congratulated the governor on what they characterized as a conscious effort to fortify institutions and advance inclusive government in Taraba State as the event came to a close.
