The Edo State government or its operatives allegedly funded the assassination attempt on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, according to veteran Nollywood actor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo.
Peter Obi and other ADC chieftains were ambushed by gunmen in Edo State on Tuesday, as was previously mentioned.
In an interview with Arise Television’s “Prime Time,” Okonkwo claimed that incumbent Edo State Governor Monday Okpehbolo had once threatened Peter Obi with expulsion if he entered the state without his permission.
He claimed that the government or its operatives had attempted to kill Peter Obi in Edo State.
The former governor of Edo State, John Odigie Oyegun, provided me with information about the purported assassination attempt.
“The government or its agents are held accountable for this incident. Remember how the current governor of Edo State threatened to prevent Peter Obi from entering the state without his permission, claiming that his safety would not be ensured?
It was discussed on the air that opposition leaders were at risk from this previous threat. People came to welcome Olumide Akpata, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a group that is currently allegedly under attack.
The welcoming group came across a ten-vehicle convoy headed by a pilot vehicle.
