According to reports, on February 24, armed men opened fire during a political gathering in Benin, narrowly sparing Obi, John Oyegun, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and numerous leaders and members of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Later, on his đť•Ź account, a netizen known as Udeme Monday Stephen claimed responsibility for the incident and threatened Obi once more.
Online, Stephen said that Obi was fortunate to have escaped in Benin and promised that the former presidential candidate would not have the same luck the next time.
“We cautioned Obi from entering Edo State, but he confused our determination with the internet chatter of his Obidiots. I’m very grateful that Obi made it through this.
“I found out he is visiting my home state of Rivers. No, my men will take care of that one and they won’t miss the target. “A bastard is destined to die, so speak no peace to him and wish him no long life,” Stephen wrote.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security specialist in the Lake Chad region, the man has been taken into custody.
Makama announced this on Monday via a post using its official X Twitter.
According to the piece, a top security source disclosed that DSS agents started a covert investigation as soon as the threat was made, using forensic equipment to track down and capture the suspect.
The source claims that Stephen teaches at Jessica High School in Eliozu, which is situated in Rivers State’s Umuehere Community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
“I firmly believe that the suspect was implicated by the results of the agency’s forensic investigations,” the source emphasized.
“You are aware that the DSS is constantly aware of its duty to investigate reliable intelligence, regardless of tribe or religion, as a responsible security organization tasked with counter-espionage, VIP protection, among other asset protection obligations.
According to Makaka, the source stated, “They swiftly deployed operatives, and the man who threatened Peter Obi was nabbed and is in custody.”
