Popular Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records founder Michael Collins Ajereh, well known as Don Jazzy, has admitted that despite his success and popularity, he still has anxieties about love, relationships, and marriage.
The 42-year-old singer, who was previously married in 2003 but divorced two years later, spoke openly in a recent interview about his changing perspectives on love, faith, and personal development.
“There are good and bad ones. My parents were madly in love till my mother died. We witness examples like that that make you believe in relationships, crave them, and want something similar,” Don Jazzy stated on HabbyFX’s YouTube channel on Monday, November 3.
The Mavin boss stated that while love stories like those of his late parents inspire him, public relationship crises on social media have made him wary of commitment.
“We have some awful examples from both sides, men and women. “Some men are violent, chronic cheaters,” he explained.
“And then when it comes out on social media, relationship breakups, people washing their dirty linen in public, it now gives me fear.”
He stated that being vulnerable in relationships is not easy for him anymore.
“You try to be vulnerable with only one person out there. I’m still waiting for God. “They said when you find the one, you will have butterflies in your stomach,” he added, smiling.
Don Jazzy also admitted that money concerns play a significant factor in his reluctance to remarry, citing cases of individuals losing fortunes following divorce settlements.
“A man has to lose half of all that he has worked for in his life, that’s those ones that don’t have a prenup, like in America,” he told me.
“You see some people who have toiled their entire lives, yet when they divorce, they have to divide their properties. All of these things used to scare me. “The money I’ve saved is for my generation.”
‘I’m Single, but I’ve Dated Before’
When questioned if he had given love another try, the music mogul admitted to dating following his divorce but affirmed that he is still single.
“I have dated previously. Currently, I am single. Fear not, for God’s timing is the best. I simply want the proper person. “At the same time, I’m not sure if I’m the right person for someone’s daughter,” he admitted.
Don Jazzy reflected on his own experience, stating that he has evolved emotionally and spiritually and is still working to become a better person.
“Am I an ideal partner? Am I disciplined enough to stick with one person? As I work on myself, I pray to God about how I may become a better person,” he explained.
“I’ve improved myself over time. I was a threat when I was younger, but as I’ve become older, I’ve become wiser.”
When questioned about his favorite musicians, Don Jazzy replied it was impossible to choose just one because he gets inspiration from so many.
“It’s not as easy as that for me because, as a creative person, or like a music producer, like that siren I’m hearing now is giving me an idea for beats,” he remarked as he giggled.
“I admire Johnny Drille; he’s incredibly gifted. He’s a versatile artist. However, in the country, Wizkid, Davido, Burna, 2Face, D’banj, and Olamide have taken the culture forward.
It was said that the Mavin CEO also discussed his daily routine, stating that he now spends the most of his time indoors and relies on his team to handle operations.
“When I was younger, I was always moving and had more adventurous days. But now I delegate. “I’m an improver now,” he stated.
“I am usually indoors, whether in my house, the office, or the studio, and they are all close by. I have people in place who can put out fires once they start.”
He emphasized the value of teamwork in his business operations. “One cannot do it by themself. “Even God is all-powerful, but He cannot do everything on His own,” he said.
When asked about his beliefs, Don Jazzy stated that he still believes in God but is cautious about organized religion.
“I believe in God from birth. However, given the current state of affairs, I am skeptical about churches. “But I believe in God,” he stated.
