Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that the Electoral Amendment Act was passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives in a practical and realistic manner.

Recall that the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 was enacted by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu just twenty-four hours later.

However, Tinubu has been under fire from many parts of the nation for the Act’s hasty signing, which has prompted national debate.

In an interview with Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief,” Morka responded to the situation by defending NASS and claiming that their choice was motivated by the difficulties the nation’s communication technology presented.

“The Senate and the House of Representatives were very pragmatic and realistic in passing the Electoral Act, taking into account the state of communication technology in our country,” he stated.

“Remember that there are other parties in our National Assembly besides the All Progressives Congress, or APC. There, we have other parties.

Therefore, the results of the joint work and will of all members of the legislature must be regarded as the product of the discussions and bills that are enacted by the National Assembly.

“As a nation, we must be practical. As a people, it is acceptable to strive for the highest standards.

“But when we look at our country, I’m talking to you from Asaba, Delta state, and I literally went through three networks before I was able to find a stable connectivity to be on this show,” the speaker said.

“Whether Nigerians believe that what is happening in Lagos or Abuja is the same in terms of facilities throughout the rest of the country is unknown to me.

“I wish things were different, too. To upload real-time electronic transmission of election results, I wish all connectivity problems were resolved.
