In Malam Fatori, a crucial border town on the outskirts of Lake Chad, soldiers from the Nigerian Army and the Multinational Joint Task Force, or MNJTF, have repelled a dawn attack by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province, or ISWAP.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the information in a post on his X account.
Around 4:30 in the morning, the terrorists launched a concerted attack on the Forward Operating Base, or FOB, Kangar, according to security sources. on Tuesday, attempting to overrun the military installation by employing armed drones, artillery fire, and swift ground movement.
After a fierce gunfight, the forces, backed by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), reportedly held their ground, reorganized, and launched a counteroffensive that drove the insurgents back.
Targeting the terrorists’ gun positions, reinforcements from the main battalion and ground attack planes from the MNJTF’s Nigerien component joined the operation, neutralizing a number of them.
The assault was successfully repelled by the combined effort, and the forces were able to keep operational control and a high level of morale.
According to security officials, the terrorists were observed making their way toward the Tumbun region’s waterways.
