In December 2025, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) lowered the price of gasoline at filling stations in Abuja to ₦835 per litre, from ₦915 per litre, for the third time.

The state-owned oil company acknowledged that this represents a ₦80 adjustment.

In the nation’s capital, MRS, BOVAS, and AA Rano changed their petrol pump rates to between ₦739 and ₦865 per litre, following previous pricing evaluations by independent marketers.

After Dangote Refinery and depot owners dropped their ex-depot pricing to between ₦699 and ₦800 per litre, NNPCL and other filling stations followed suit.

This came after Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, announced that starting on Tuesday, MRS Oil and Gas filling stations will rigidly impose a petrol price of ₦739 per litre.

Dangote promised Nigerians that the corporation will make sure customers “feel the impact of the recent reduction in petrol prices” during a news conference at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki.

“MRS will begin selling gasoline at ₦739 per liter on Tuesday. We will definitely enforce that low price. We shall see to it that it is put into practice. You can come here to purchase your truck if you have one. Our selling price is ₦699. The NMDPRA % is included in the ₦699. Therefore, the actual amount that we receive is roughly ₦389,” he stated.
