Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, is certain that Nigeria has what it takes to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, stating that the players are traveling to Morocco not only to compete but also to return home with the trophy.

According to reports, the competition would be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Nwabali, who gained notoriety for his exceptional performances in the 2023 AFCON in the Ivory Coast, thinks the team’s experience from making it to the final the previous year has strengthened and strengthened them.

In a SuperSport TV interview, Nwabali stated, “AFCON is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, not just in Africa.”

We are always expected to succeed as a large country, not only to take part. I believe we will win this year because we played in the final last year.

Under the late Stephen Keshi, the Super Eagles last won the AFCON trophy in 2013, building on their previous victories in 1980 and 1994.

Nigeria lost to hosts Ivory Coast 2-1 in a tight final that devastated supporters after coming close once more last year.

Nwabali became a fan favorite due to his heroics in that tournament, but his current performance has caused controversy among followers.

The Chippa United custodian has come under fire for mistakes and time-wasting strategies that resulted in needless bookings during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old is optimistic and keeps an eye on the wider picture. Nigeria must advance through the African playoffs before the AFCON in order to be eligible for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Soon, head coach Eric Chelle is anticipated to reveal his team for the pivotal playoff games. Maduka Okoye of Udinese, who is making a long-awaited return to the national team, is expected to present Nwabali with fierce challenge.
