Nyiam Criticizes Nigeria’s Police Structure as Colonial-Era Legacy

According to Mr. Tony Nyiam, a veteran army officer, the Nigeria Police Force’s current organizational structure is out of date because it was initially intended to subjugate colonized people rather than assist citizens in a democratic society.

On Monday, Nyiam made the claim on Arise Television.

He declared, “The colonial-era policing system is no longer appropriate for modern Nigeria and remains largely unchanged.”

He claims that rather than offering community-focused security, the structure was designed to impose control over the populace during colonial rule.

Nyiam contended that the police force’s ability to effectively handle the nation’s escalating security issues has been hampered by its highly centralized structure.

In order to bring the policing system into compliance with Nigeria’s federal structure and democratic values, the retired army officer emphasized the necessity of a thorough overhaul.

He urged decision-makers to examine the existing framework for law enforcement and implement changes that would improve the system’s responsiveness, accountability, and ability to successfully defend people and property across the nation.
