Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has stressed that the N4.237 trillion 2026 budget plan must precisely reflect the requirements of the populace and address urgent social and economic issues.
Obasa made the comments on Tuesday at the Lagos Assembly complex during Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s official presentation of the 2026 Appropriations Bill.
The governor reportedly presented an N4.237 trillion plan, known as the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” to parliamentarians for consideration and approval.
The speaker emphasized that the budget ought to strengthen economic
resilience, enhance welfare, bolster security, and support the development of sustainable infrastructure in every Lagos community.
He said that “hard work, creativity, and laws that encourage innovation and excellence among our people” are responsible for the state’s current standing.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of the Assembly under his direction, Obasa stated that the legislature has passed over 1,500 resolutions and more than 100 legislation in the last ten years with the goal of strengthening governance and bettering the lives of the populace.
Obasa praised Governor Sanwo-Olu and his group for putting forth a thorough budget that reflects Lagos’ dedication to inclusive development and growth.

The Speaker pointed out that the Assembly has continuously backed the executive in passing legislation that advances socioeconomic growth, fortifies local government systems, and improves institutional frameworks for efficient governance.
Additionally, he praised the governor’s wisdom and fortitude in overcoming economic obstacles while maintaining important infrastructure initiatives that strengthen Lagos’ position as a major economic center.
Obasa noted that the proposed budget places a high priority on areas that are essential to maintaining long-term success, including healthcare, education, transportation, security, and governance.
He urged lawmakers to carefully review the bill to make sure it serves the interests of Lagos citizens as a whole.
Obasa thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, pointing out that the Renewed Hope Agenda has produced noticeable advances in the country.
