The attack on his predecessor, former Anambra State governor Chris Ngige, which killed an innocent woman and maimed a police orderly, has angered Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential contender.
In the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ngige’s convoy was attacked on Thursday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road.
Following a visit to Ngige, Peter Obi posted on his verified 𝕏 handle on Friday, describing the incident as abhorrent and painful, emphasizing Nigeria’s need for a strong security architecture.
According to the past state governors of Anambra, the incident serves as another reminder of the needless and preventable carnage that Nigeria still experiences.
In order to stop the rising tide of instability in our nation, Peter Obi continued, the incident highlights the critical necessity for the government at all levels to enact more coordinated and sufficient security measures with the active involvement of citizens.
“Sen. Chris Ngige’s solidarity,” he wrote.
“While I was abroad yesterday, I learned about the extremely upsetting attack on my older brother, Senator Chris Ngige’s convoy. I went to see him in Alor when I got back today to express my personal sympathy and give thanks to God for keeping him alive.
“It is terrible and painful that the attack killed an innocent woman and injured a police officer. It serves as just another reminder of the terrible and preventable carnage that our country still experiences.
“To stop the rising tide of insecurity in our nation, this regrettable tragedy highlights the critical necessity for more coordinated and effective security measures by government at all levels and with the active engagement of citizens. No Nigerian should have to live in constant terror, and no one should perish in such needless situations.
“My condolences and thoughts are with the family of the deceased woman. We must continue to be dedicated to creating a Nigeria that respects human life and allows all citizens to travel freely and securely.
