Peter Obi, a former presidential contender, has urged the Super Eagles to persevere in spite of Nigeria’s heartbreaking elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, the Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties following a tight 1-1 draw over 120 minutes against DR Congo. This was their second straight World Cup qualification loss.

In response, Obi praised the team’s dedication and acknowledged the emotional toll of the loss in a post on his 𝕏 account on Monday.

“I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you, our dear Super Eagles,” he wrote.

“You carry the nation’s heartbeat when you wear the green and white, and I recognize the effort, sacrifice, and dedication you put into every game.”

Obi emphasized that the most crucial reaction is to rebuild with discipline and attention, urging the players to not let the setback define their future.

But don’t let this moment depress you,” he replied. The way they handle hardship is what distinguishes great teams.

“How we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even more discipline, attention, and readiness is what important right now. You can rise stronger, I’m sure of it.

The squad was reminded by the former governor of Anambra State that the country still has a lot of faith in their talents.

“Do not let the greatness of tomorrow be overshadowed by today,” he wrote. The eagle always raises its wings rather than bending its head.

“Remain dedicated and maintain a positive attitude. Nigeria has faith in you, and we shall rise once more as a team. Super Eagles, continue to soar.
