The names of the recently admitted members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) have been posted on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official website.
Along with other members of the party’s national leadership, Abdulrahman Mohammed is named as the National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary.
Abdulrahman and Anyanwu were both chosen in the PDP National Convention, which took place late last night in Abuja. Since then, the event has caused controversy because of assertions and denials made by opposing groups within the party.
The development comes after disagreements over the convention’s legitimacy were raised by several factions.
Observers are interpreting INEC’s update as a big step that would indicate the electoral body’s acceptance of the list.
In order to resolve the leadership problem that arose during the convention, certain PDP stakeholders are reportedly pursuing legal action, which coincides with ongoing internal conflicts inside the party.
It is anticipated that the PDP would continue to deal with internal issues about its leadership structure as Nigeria gets closer to the 2019 general elections.
