Formally defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are six members of the Ogun State House of Assembly who were elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is led by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye.

The members are Dickson Awolaja, Remo-North, Lawal Samsudeen, Ogun Waterside, Waliu Owode, Ijebu-East, Oluseun Adesanya, Ijebu-North East, Damilare Bello, Sagamu I, and Lukman Adeleye, who represents Odogbolu State Constituency.

During Tuesday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide reportedly read a joint letter of defection from the PDP to the APC.

They said that an internal issue that “increasingly hindered the effective and adequate political engagements” was the reason for their withdrawal from the PDP.

Additionally, they said that the defection was motivated by the need to identify with a progressive and transformative program that would better enable them to provide their voters with significant democratic dividends.

“We remain committed to our legislative duties as well as improved welfare and overall development of our constituents,” the letter continued.

We also need to use this opportunity to thank the House members and leadership for their cooperation and support.

“In accordance with established legislative protocols, kindly accept this letter as our official notification and give it the appropriate recognition.”
