As a “die-hard democrat,” President Bola Tinubu reiterated his dedication to democracy, national cohesion, and the rule of law on Wednesday.

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu addressed leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) during an interfaith breaking of fast.

The President characterized himself as an ardent democrat committed to the stability, unity, and advancement of democracy in Nigeria.

“I’m an ardent Democrat. I firmly adhere to that conviction and continue to be dedicated to a united Nigeria.

He declared, “That philosophy and principle will live and die with me.”

Tinubu considered the sacrifices made over the years by pro-democracy campaigners as well as Nigeria’s democratic journey.

“I’m happy that we all support democracy and do it freely and cheerfully.

For 26 years, we have relentlessly pursued it. He remarked, “Some of us still have bruises from the struggle.

The President recalled the experiences of activists who battled for the nation’s democratic government.

“We were attacked, protested, and placed in prison. He remarked, “Some of us went into exile and founded NADECO.

Tinubu emphasized that respect for the rule of law must serve as the foundation for democratic participation, which is still entirely voluntary.

He pointed out that discussion, disagreement, and majority rule are essential to democracy.

Even while they might not get their way, a minority will have a voice. He remarked, “That is the sweetness and essence of democracy.”

The President called on political players to maintain their commitment to national stability while participating in productive discourse.

He stated, “We must continue to be dedicated to the nation’s peace and stability while engaging in intellectual debate and honest interrogation of one another.”

Tinubu also discussed his choice to ratify the National Assembly’s Electoral Act.

“I signed the Electoral Act since the National Assembly passed it with a resounding majority.

He declared, “I submitted myself to the principle of the rule of law and democracy.”

The President went on to say that mutual respect, cooperation, and tolerance are necessary for democracy.

“We need to enhance our democratic platform and make accommodations for one another.

“Peace, stability, and dedication to the rule of law are necessary,” he declared.
